Data Collection
Data collection is the collection of electronically stored information (ESI) by highly trained individuals in order to preserve the integrity of the data being collected, including the metadata. This process ensures that the data collected can be utilized in a court of law. RVM handles electronic data collections, ranging from the collection of individual computer systems, to extracting data from company servers.
RVM’s certified experts have collected data in the United States and internationally and are well trained in every aspect of the collection process. RVM has forensically collected data from a variety of sources including:
- Microsoft Exchange
- Groupwise
- Lotus Notes
- Symantec Enterprise Vault
- Microsoft Sharepoint
- Group Shares, Department Shares, Custodian Local and Home Drives
- RAID Arrays
- Network Attached Storage Devices (NAS)
- Storage Area Network (SAN)
RVM’s forensic team can also cull very large data sets from large numbers of computer systems down to a small number of responsive files for manual review by attorneys representing the parties involved in the litigation. Typical electronic discovery projects focus on user created documents such as emails, Microsoft Office documents and Adobe PDF’s as opposed to the system files that make up a computer system. The process of separating the system files from the user created documents is referred to as data culling. RVM employs state of the art methods to cull large sets of data down to manageable sizes all while maintaining the integrity of the original data.
Additionally, RVM’s certified experts are able to filter the data sets down even further by keyword and date searching the data set. RVM utilizes the industry’s top search utilities to maintain a defensible process throughout the entire electronic discovery workflow.
