RVM Bolstering Boutique Law Firms

June 23rd, 2010

Small boutique law firms have not escaped the wrath of e-discovery. Judges expect all attorneys from the top AmLaw list to solo practitioners to do their due diligence for e-discovery. Yet small firms remain overlooked and under-served by the vendor community. In this competitive market, e-discovery vendors have instead turned most of their attention to big law firms, hoping to land the next mega case.

At RVM, we like to tread in a different path from the masses. We understand the challenges faced by smaller law firms that do not have the dedicated litigation support and IT resources to navigate the e-discovery mine field. We understand that the needs and concerns of smaller law firms may not be the same as the big law firms. RVM’s team of expert consultants is adept at bridging the gap between the complex technologies that are often associated with eDiscovery, and the non-technical legal professionals who need to review the data. Our professional Services team has been engaged to assist in every facet of the Discovery process, bringing advanced technologies from our arsenal such as EnCase, FTK, ClearWell and Relativity among others, to the reaches of those small firms that would otherwise have been excluded due to their limited resources.

By working hand-in-hand with our smaller legal and commercial clients, RVM has developed a trusted partnership with them, which has resulted in our becoming their go-to advisors for any technology concerns. If your small law firm needs help, call RVM and let us show you the difference that we can make.

Native Processing of Lotus Notes

June 23rd, 2010

RVM has continued to advance its development of native processing of Lotus Notes data. Recently, RVM handled a project involving hundreds of gigabytes of Lotus Notes Mail databases. Due to the large volume of data and the client’s need to review in a native format RVM’s developed a custom solution to meet their needs. Responsive mail messages were funneled into a new subset database while maintaining unique IDs throughout the process. This enabled the client to use existing tools such as Lotus Notes Client which allowed for multiple users to review data that came from the same source. RVM Inc looks forward to future endeavors with the client and seeks new challenges to be presented.

Most recently, RVM has upgraded its e-data processing software, Revelation™, to the latest version of Lotus Notes, 8.5.

To learn how RVM can help you process and review complex data types like Lotus Notes, please contact info@rvminc.com.

The Twist: Bloomberg Data

May 26th, 2010

NEW YORK, NY- With the recent turmoil in the financial industry, the threat of litigation has become more ominous. If you are representing any of the financial institutions in the “Mortgage Meltdown”, you can be assured that processing and reviewing email will play a significant role in litigation. According to the Enterprise Storage Group, 75% of a company’s intellectual property is contained in email.
Microsoft Outlook is a standard mail platforms for most companies, but financial service firms offer a unique twist- the Bloomberg Messaging system. Just about every trader, broker, and manager has a Bloomberg terminal on their desk. These are used to execute trades but also offer real time communication. Bloomberg emails, Bloomberg Chats, and Bloomberg Instant messages are all viable means of communication and are categorized as ESI.

The challenge: Bloomberg Mail is a proprietary format and it requires specialized tools to handle its messages. Bloomberg Mail does not store the messages and attachments together, but rather has a reference to attachments as part of the message. In order to perform a logical review, the messages and their attachments have to be reconstructed.

Since the Bloomberg Messaging systems is not available in the user’s premises, Bloomberg has an archiving system that allows Bloomberg users to access messages via daily FTP downloads. These archive files are in raw ASCI text format with several hundreds, possibly thousands, of messages in each text file. Using the standard searching procedure would be a nightmare on one of these files.

The solution: RVM has years of experience working with Bloomberg data, and has developed its own engine to process the various data formats created by Bloomberg Messaging Systems. RVM’s in-house developed processing software, Revelation, can parse the daily dumps of archive text file into individual email files and match attachments to the parent email. RVM has a proven track record of performing this at scale, processing millions of messages at a time.

RVM’s software can:
- Process all Bloomberg communications- email, IM, and chat.
- Process all Bloomberg formats – XML, DAT, TEXT.
- Extract the meta data from each individual message.
- Generate a message file (plain text file) for each individual message.
- Match attachments with their messages to create a single logical unit.
- De-duplicate, search, and filter the messages.

For reputable and defensible processes with complex data types, trust RVM

RVM Adds Forensic Coverage in NYC

May 5th, 2010
New York- May 5, 2010

RVM, Inc has kicked off its growth initiatives for 2010 with a new forensics lab in RVM’s headquarters in New York City. Craig Cheng will lead the Forensic division in New York. Greg Cancilla remains as RVM’s Director of Forensics and covers the Ohio market.

The New York forensics lab will now support the growing need for data collection along with RVM’s full complement of e-discovery services.  Law firms and corporations can manage their e-discovery process from collection to production with RVM’s team of industry professionals. Managing multiple vendors is difficult and opens up the margin for error. By providing a beginning to end spectrum of e-discovery services, RVM closes the gap and the process is streamlined.

The forensics lab will allow RVM to provide full forensic preservation and collection for:

·    Desktops/Laptops
·    Networks
·    Network Attached Storage (NAS)

·    Emails
·    Databases
·    Backup tapes
·    Flash Media/Thumb Drives
·    Web-based contents
·    Cell Phones/PDAs
·    CD/DVD/Floppies
·    Cameras

RVM offers both Clearwell and Revelation (TM), RVM’s proprietary processing technology, for culling and processing. RVM also continues to provide hosting through Relativity to round out RVM’s best of breed technology platform.
Vincent Brunetti, RVM’s CEO, says, “With the full suite of solutions, tools and professionals available to assist our clients with their complex and demanding needs around ESI, we are positioned to make a significant impact and challenge how corporations traditionally handle their ESI (electronically stored information) and costs associated with such processes. Our professionals are skilled at taking a ‘fresh look’ at an existing situation. We are now able to develop solutions that result in simpler procedures that are more effective and more efficient.”
