Today, RVM celebrates Red Nose Day! Red Nose Day is on a mission to lift kids out of poverty. The event has raised over $1 billion globally in the last 25 years, and has helped kids in the United States and around the world.
The British Charity Comic Relief was founded by comedian Lenny Henry and comedy script writer Richard Curtis in response to famine in Ethiopia, and other poverty stricken areas of the world. The very first Red Nose Day happened on February 8, 1988, when Henry traveled to Ethiopia and celebrated the event with a telethon that raised £15 million, and attracted 30 million viewers on BBC television. Since then, Comic Relief has expanded its reach from the UK to the US. The telethon in the US is hosted by NBC, and features celebrities and comedians who all come together for a fun night of entertainment while raising awareness.
The proceeds of buying red noses and the telethon all go toward helping children in need.
Wear your red nose today!
